Climb together from Open to Master!

Today, we announced FACEIT League with registration closing on April 25th, a new team league powered by community subscriptions to create huge (and sustainable) prizes season after season in a consistent calendar of competition. We want the FACEIT League to provide all players an opportunity to try competitive officials, just like they have seen on professional streams, with balanced matches against similarly skilled opponents.

The first season of the FACEIT League guarantees a minimum of 12 sweaty matches where every team can taste real competition against similarly skilled opponents. At the end of each season, the bottom teams will be demoted to a lower division, while the best teams progress to a playoff bracket where they will face off in an epic final battle to earn the promotion to upper divisions allowing players to compete in an open path to pro circuit.

To launch Season 1, we need to kickstart our initial divisions before we can use the results of each League season to move teams up and down based on that season’s performance. This will help players compete for an appropriate share of the $170,000 prize pool so the best players earn the most money, but amateurs can still support their passion and have more meaningful matches than competitive matchmaking with something to play for.

Here’s a quick summary of how to qualify for each division:

Master: Road to Esports World Cup

Our highest division will qualify the top 3 teams to the Esports World Cup in both Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), and North America and 1 team in Oceania and South America as well as the lion’s share of $170,000.

Europe, Middle East, and Africa:

The top 8 teams from OWCS will be invited to participate and will be joined by the top teams from each qualifier on:

North America:

The top 8 teams from OWCS will be invited to participate and will be joined by the top teams from each qualifier on:

Oceania:

The top 4 teams from each of these two qualifiers will compete in the Master division.

South America:

The top 4 teams from each of these two qualifiers will compete in the Master division.

Expert and Advanced:

In Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), and North America, there will be four separate skilled divisions: Master Road to Esports World Cup, Expert, Advanced, and Open. In South America and Oceania, there will be three: Master Road to Esports World Cup, Expert, and Open. We will be using player’s FACEIT Elo to determine who qualifies for Expert and Advanced. Anyone can sign up and see how far they can go in the Open division here.

As a quick reminder, your FACEIT Elo starts based on your in-game rank but can also be improved by competing in our daily and weekly tournaments including the WASB cups here earning cash prizes and FACEIT points to exchange for Battle.net currency.

On the 22nd of April, we will move teams that are registered in the Open division to a higher division if they have 5 or more players that are above the following Elo values:

Europe, Middle East, and Africa and North America:

  • Expert: 1,650+ Elo
  • Advanced: 1,200+ Elo

South America and Oceania:

  • Expert: 1,200+ Elo

We may adjust these values as we get closer to League registration and evaluate the number of signups in order to balance the divisions rather than, for example, three times as many teams in a higher division than a lower one.

Good luck competing in FACEIT League Season 1 as you help create a sustainable competition structure for the Overwatch community, win your share of $170,000, and qualify for the Esports World Cup!

See you soon in the FACEIT League Heroes!
